Into the Wind
And then, all of a sudden, kitesurfing entered the artist’s life. How do you explain to your friends that you’re heading out onto the water when any reasonably sensible person would rather be sitting in front of the fireplace with a hot cup of tea? The sound art piece Into the Wind explores precisely this question. What do people experience when they ride across choppy water in stormy conditions, suspended beneath a kite soaring 22 metres above them, witnessing breathtaking landscapes from impossible perspectives amid the forces of nature? It is about the human being confronted with elements far greater than themselves—wonder, fear, joy, and the vivid feeling of being truly alive.
A carefully balanced composition of natural soundscapes, spoken fragments from professional athletes and influencers, ambient textures, and poems about the sea forms the core of this work in progress, premiered at the Martin Luther Church in Dresden’s Neustadt district.
